NPBA Officers and Board of Directors Officers Tracy Menasco – President As the owner of Trixie's Beauty Bar on Lombard, Tracy lives and works in the heart of the Portsmouth and University Park neighborhoods. Prior to opening the salon, after having spent over a decade in retail service and banking, she returned to school to earn a BA in History from Reed College and an MS in Integrated Marketing Communications from Northwestern University in Chicago. Other interests include being the mom of her son, Alec, and volunteering at Children's Relief Nursery in St. Johns, as a member of its Public Relations Committee. Tracy organized several events on Lombard, including the annual Summer Sidewalk Sale in August and the annual Shop, Slurp & Stroll holiday shopping event in November. tracy@trixiesbeautybar.com
Mike Salvo – Vice President Mike has been associated with NPBA for more than 14 years as a member through partnership with his wife at Evie's Secretarial Services. He is a 60+ year resident of N. Portland, RHS grad and founding President of the University Park Neighborhood Assoc., serving for four years. Mike is retired from Rodgers Instruments in Hillsboro as Facilities Manager and Safety & Health Manager. Mike produces the monthly NPBA Newsletter, and manages the website. He is also the Director of the professional volunteer CERT team, which is supported by SAIF to help Portland companies discover better ergonomic practices for their work environments. npba_newsletter@yahoo.com Michelle Schleiger - Treasurer Originally from Long Island, New York, Michelle married and moved to the great northwest in 1989 with her native born Oregonian husband, Dave. Michelle has been employed with UPS on Swan Island for 19 years, transitioning from part-time work to a full time management position once her three children began school full time. Michelle and husband Dave opened Copy Pilot in August of 2006 to vest in the great neighborhood we know and love as North Portland. Evie Salvo - Office Manager / Secretary Evie is the owner - operator of Evie's Secretarial Services, which serves the North Portland area with part time, off site secretarial services. The business opened in 1985 as primarily a word processing service for University of Portland nursing and engineering students and has evolved over the years to provide secretarial services for small businesses on an as-needed basis where either proprietary / confidential help is needed or as fill in while a permanent position is being filled. Directors - term ending Jan. 2012 Michael Verbout - Director Michael was born and raised in Portland, a graduate of Roosevelt High School. He is a life long resident of St. Johns and a retired educator / administrator of 33 years. Michael is the originator of "The Gathering" quarterly area wide meetings, and is a member of Loaves and Fishes, Peninsula Kiwanis, NP Optimist Club, Roosevelt High School Alumni Association and Chair of the Moore Street Advisory Council of the Salvation Army among others. mikeverbout@cheerful.com Dr. Dan Halko - Director Dan is a transplant from the great state of Montana where he grew up on his family cattle ranch. Following graduation from Western States Chiropractic College, he moved to Spokane, WA to practice for two years as an associate before moving back to Portland, opening St. Johns Chiropractic Clinic. Two years later Dr. Dan took over North Portland Chiropractic Clinic. He is a member of the American Chiropractic Association, and recipient of the "Outstanding Service Award" given to a regional chiropractor for his dedication to the profession. He attended OSU and started working as an engineer for Worthington Corporation designing and applying pumps, compressors, and steam turbines. In 1980 he joined the Western Group (formerly Western Wire Works) and spent 20 years applying screening systems to mines in North & South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. He is now the COO of the headquarters plant in Portland. Previous engagements have included Commodore of the Hayden Isle. In 1997 Suzanne opened the Express Employment Professionals - St. Johns office, only to find the overwhelming need in helping find good people jobs. In 2002, she purchased the St. John’s area Express franchise to further her efforts. Suzanne has created an office that thrives because of her passion for helping people succeed. She is a board member of multiple networking organizations including the Portland Executive Officer’s Club and The Centre for Lifestyle Coaching. She is also a member of the American Staffing Association. John Palmeri - Director Jim Schaller - Past President Advisor Jim is a native of Portland, and moved his financial planning practice to St. Johns in December of 2003, where he presently owns Summa Wealth Management and St. John's Tax Services. Presently, St. John's Tax Services has over 1500 clients. Jim believes in order to be a sound financial advisor, you need to understand how taxes affect one's bottom line. Wanting to get involved with the North Portland community, Jim joined several service and professional organizations and was elected to serve as President of the North Portland Business Association in 2008. During his tenure as President, membership has grown by over 30% to 72 business members.
